Audi Promises Wide Array of Exciting Tech in New Flagship: The 2019 A8
Level 3 autonomous tech, reactive suspension, and upgrades galore!
There's no question that Audi models are famed as much for their technology as they are for their powerful engines, luxurious interiors, and stylish design. As such, you can imagine how excited we were at Audi Cary to hear about all of the innovative technology we can expect from the brand's all-new flagship, the 2019 A8, which should be available next summer.
Here's what we find most exciting about it.
Level 3 autonomous driving capability
No stranger to self-driving technology, Audi claims it's the first automaker to successfully bring to market a vehicle with Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities, and we can't wait to try out this system for ourselves. While it's not quite at the level of "Enter your destination and then take a nap," the A8's "Traffic Jam Pilot" is still a Level 3 autonomous system capable of handling driving responsibilities at speeds up to 37 mph on the highway, allowing commuters to focus on the fun parts of their drive.
Reactive suspension
Speaking of the fun part of the drive, the 2019 A8 will feature an advanced active suspension system that will use radar and laser systems—combined with electric motors at each corner of the vehicle—to spot potholes and bumps and to raise or lower the wheel height as necessary, making for an exceptionally smooth drive.
Even better, this system can also improve driver safety if it detects an imminent collision, raising the vehicle so that more energy is directed to the structurally strongest part of the body shell, reducing the chances of a serious injury or fatality.
And the tech features don't stop there
Upgrades to its electric power steering, laser headlights with twice the beam length of regular headlights, and new twin touch screens that have been specifically designed to ensure more intuitive operation are just a few of the other tech upgrades drivers can expect from the extraordinary 2019 A8.
